ITINERARY

Day 1: Depart for Bolivia

On board international flight to La Paz.

Day 2: La Paz Arrival

Upon arrival, make your own transfer to hotel (Airport pick up & drop off service are not included).


Rest up and get ready for your stoked itinerary in the afternoon.


City tour with shoe-shiner (Half Day – walking tour)

A unique visit to the popular neighborhoods and markets of La Paz, guided by a “lustra bota” or shoe-shiner will provide different impressions of this unique city. Meeting with the “lustra guide” outside the former train terminal of La Paz. Hop on, on one of the many telefericos (cable cars) lines this vibrant city has, the Red Line, and get off where the walking tour starts, the main cemetery. After a short visit, continue walking to “Fish Street Market”, the “Flower Market” and the “Uruguay Market” where various species of animals and food can be seen. The tour continues to Eloy Salmón Street, lined with shops and stalls selling the latest technology and to the “Cholitas Market” where Cholitas (local ladies) can be seen shopping for traditional skirts and blankets. The tour concludes at the famous witches’ market on Linares and Sagarnaga Streets where we will learn a little bit of Andean cosmovision.

Day 3: La Paz - Tiwanaku - La Paz

Tiwanaku is a 1.5 hour drive from La Paz (72 km/45 miles), throughout which the highlands are passed and the Aymaran way of life can be seen. Tiwanaku dating back to 400AC - 1100AC, was one of the most important pre-Inca civilizations and considered to be among the most developed at the time. The main constructions visited during this tour are: Kalasasaya temple and the Gate of the Sun constructed out of stone, Ponce and Fraile monoliths; Akapana pyramid and semi-underground temple. Two local museums to view pottery, stone work and learn about the culture are also included on this trip.

Day 4: La Paz - Uyuni - Salt flats – Colchani

At the indicated time, you will be transferred to the airport for a domestic flight to Uyuni.

Our day begins with the visit of the famous Train Cemetery, located only 8min away from Uyuni town. This place is known for the remains of steam locomotives that have persisted since the 19th and 20th centuries. Later, in Colchani we will observe the salt extraction methods used by the local people in their artisanal fabrics.  We will then enter the incredible Uyuni salt flats, with more than 12,000 km2 of pure salt. Visit the “Stairs to heaven” which is one of the works of the renowned Bolivian artist Gaston Ugalde. It is a staircase made of salt that is located in the middle of the Uyuni salt flat. It is an interesting stop to have nice pictures. Then, we will see the “Eyes of the Salt”. These are the outlets for subterranean rivers flowing under the Uyuni Salt Flat. The waters flowing from inside the salt flat have particular acidic concentrations and are considered medicinal waters by the locals. Continue our journey to Incahuasi Island, which is a unique oasis and isolated ecosystem that is populated by giant cactuses up to 10 meters high, amazing!

A picnic lunch in salt flats is included.

Overnight at the salt hotel - it emphasizes the extravagant building with blocks of salt and it is known for its panoramic views of Uyuni salt flats. As well as allows a person to relax the body and mind with spaces decorated with crafts of the area.

Optional Program - Stargazing Tour: $99 per person

Have an extraordinary experience being in the middle of Uyuni salt flats at night, it will be a trip to the stars by staying on the Earth. It will give an indescribable feeling. (This visit depends on the weather).
Note: Due to bad weather conditions and full moon dates maybe it won’t be possible to appreciate the stars. Included: a cup of hot beverage (non-alcoholic)

Day 5: Salt Flats

Continue the trip direction north until we arrive at the feet of the majestic Tunupa volcano. We will visit Coquesa and their famous “mummies”, which are from pre-Columbian time. Also, on the same salt flats we will have the chance to take the funny “perspective” pictures. Our driver and guide will help us. They are already experts in this subject. Finally, when returning to Uyuni, we will enjoy a beautiful sunset, which is one of the most beautiful moments that we will see in this place. The effect caused by the colors of the sun together with the salt make us have a spectacular landscape. It"s a great time to get great photos.


A picnic lunch in salt flats is included.

Day 6: Uyuni - La Paz

At the indicated time, you will be transferred to the airport for a domestic flight to La Paz. Day at leisure to enjoy your free time in La Paz.

At the indicated time, transfer to the airport for your own departure flight (Airport pick up & drop off service are not included).

Canadian Passport Holders DO NOT Require Travel Visa for This Trip

For Canadian citizens:
1. Carry a valid Passport with a validity of non-less than six months.
2. Show round trip tickets and travel itinerary.
3. Show a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate if traveling to risk zones in Bolivia (this requirement does not apply if you are not visiting endemic zones, which on our itinerary you are not, hence this requirement does not apply).


US Passport Holders Require Travel Visa for This Trip

Fo US citizens:
Visa can be obtained at any Bolivian Diplomatic or Consular Representation, or upon arrival in the country (from authorized border points) at the Migration office. If passengers are arriving to La Paz Airport LPB, they can obtain their visa on the spot.

Requirements:

1. Fill out the form "Declaración Jurada de Solicitud de Visa” (AFFIDAVIT VISA APPLICATION) with your personal data and signature, in addition, attach a 4x4cm recent colour photo without glasses with white background.
This form can be obtained in the General Directorate of Migration office or in the Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website http://portalmre.rree.gob.bo/formvisas/

2. Carry a valid Passport with a validity of non-less than six months (with at least one blank page).

3. Show round trip tickets and travel itinerary.

4. Show proof of a lodging place to stay in Bolivia (hotel, residence, family home or other similar) - Travel Itinerary is accepted.

5. Proof of financial solvency in the residence country by submitting a sworn statement supported by documents. This is just a simple statement, not necessary to show a balance.

6. Proof of payment for the tourist visa application process. Payment shall be in cash or card (card accepted VISA/Mastercard). Cash payment shall be made with US Dollars in perfect condition, meaning no ripped, marked or damaged bills.

7. Show a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate if traveling to risk zones in Bolivia (same conditions as mentioned before).

Visa approvals and/or rejections for citizens belonging to this group are carried out immediately at the border (it may take up to a maximum of 24 hours), at a Bolivian Diplomatic or Consular Representation the procedure can take up to 10 working days. This process must be carried out in person.
