Day 3: Dehli

Start the day with a morning tour exploring Old Delhi including a drive past to the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, and a visit to Gandhi Smriti. The Red Fort is an iconic landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built in the 17th century by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and served as the imperial residence of the Mughal dynasty for almost 200 years. The Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India, and a must-visit for anyone interested in Islamic architecture. It was also built by Shah Jahan in the 17th century and can accommodate up to 25,000 worshippers at a time. Next, experience a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, experiencing the sights, sounds, and smells of Old Delhi. This historic market has been in operation for more than three centuries and is home to some of the best street food, textiles, and jewelry in the city. Before lunch, we will visit Gandhi Smriti where it provides insight into the life and work of one of India"s most beloved and influential leaders. This museum is located in the house where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life and showcases a number of exhibits, including photographs, letters, and personal belongings of the great leader. This afternoon you will explore ‘Lutyens’ Delhi or New Delhi. Drive through the city viewing the government buildings, President"s House and Parliament House.  Also Visit India Gate and drive past the government buildings. Built as an imperial capital by the British, all the main buildings, designed in the 1920’s by the British architects Lutyens and Baker, remain today.  At one end of the avenue known as the Rajpath (literally the “King’s Way”) is the War Memorial Arch, better known as India Gate, a memorial to the 90,000 Indians who gave their lives in World War I. As you drive along the  majestic  Rajpath  -  the  broadest  avenue  of  Delhi  -  our  first  views encompass the enormous Secretariat buildings with their 1,000 rooms and miles of corridors, and the Parliament House, a huge circular building in red and grey sandstone with an open colonnade extending around its circumference.

At the other end stands the Rashtrapati Bhawan, one of the largest and most grandiose of the Raj constructions, built originally for the British Viceroy and now the official residence of the President of India.

Continue to visit Humayun"s Tomb. Emperor Humayun, the father of Emperor Akbar, lies buried in this magnificent monument built in red sandstone. Haji Begum, Humayun"s first wife and mother of Emperor Akbar designed and supervised the entire construction. Her design was way ahead of the times and is the  basis  for  the  design  of  the  famous  Taj  Mahal,  built  almost  a  hundred  years later!

Overnight stay in Dehli.

Day 4: Delhi - Jaipur

To start of the day, we will embark on a journey to Jaipur (approximately 6-7 hrs bus ride), a city, whose past is never too far from hand. The city of victory, Jaipur presides over the fascinating desert state and its people: surrounded by rugged hills, each crowned by a formidable fort; and beautiful palaces, mansions and gardens dotted throughout its precincts. The palaces and forts of yesteryear that were witness to royal processions and splendor are now living monuments, accepted quite naturally into the lifestyles of the people of the "pink city".

Upon arrival to Jaipur, the rest of the day is at your leisure to tour around the city or join our optional tours.

Optional program Day 4:Henna Adornment: USD 49/person

The art of henna body decoration is a timeless tradition that has been passed down through the centuries. This ancient practice involves using henna to create intricate and delicate designs on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, primarily for beautification purposes. In India, women have been adorning themselves with henna for generations, particularly for significant events such as weddings and festivals. The intricate and floral patterns create a lacy and glove-like effect, adding a touch of elegance and charm to any occasion.

Optional program Day 4:Homestyle Kitchen Tour: From Market to Table: USD 90/person (Minimum To 5 PP)

Discover the authentic flavors of India by joining a local family in their home. Learn to cook traditional Indian dishes using local ingredients, while engaging in lively conversation with your hosts. Immerse yourself in Indian culture and customs, and enjoy a grand feast of delectable dishes prepared by you and your hostess.

Overnight stay in Jaipur.

Day 5: Jaipur

In the morning, we will drive through the streets of Jaipur and make a stop to admire and capture pictures of the Palace of Winds, also known as Hawa Mahal, which was constructed in 1799. Originally intended for the secluded court ladies to witness the city’s bustling life, the Palace features a perforated screen façade that catches refreshing winds or "Hawa".

Following this, you will proceed to the City Palace complex that reflects the grandeur of a bygone era. The Palace boasts a magnificent entrance and ornamental fountains, exhibiting a splendid showcase of Hindu and Mughal architecture that continues to mesmerize visitors. The Palace also houses a museum with ample evidence of luxury and opulence.

Adjacent to the City Palace stands Jantar Mantar, also known as the Calculation Instrument. This astronomical observatory was erected between 1728 and 1734 by Maharaja Jai Singh, and it was an impressive feat of engineering that surpassed its time. Modeled after the one in Delhi, the then Mughal capital, Jai Singh built a total of five observatories, with the one in Jaipur being the largest.

Optional program Day 5: Morning visit Amber Fort with elephant / jeep ride

In the morning, you will embark on an excursion to the Amber Fort, which sits on the summit of a rugged hill and offers breathtaking views of Lake Moata. The fort’s appearance conjures up images of legends and fairy tales, as it has been constructed using white and red sandstone. What makes the Amber Fort truly unique is the stark contrast between its exterior and interior. The outer structure is imposing and rugged, designed primarily for defense, while the interior is an opulent and ornate space that reflects a blend of Hindu and Muslim styles of ornamentation. Inside the fort, visitors can marvel at the walls adorned with murals, frescoes, and paintings that depict various scenes from daily life. The walls are also embellished with intricate carvings, mosaics, and intricate mirror work that adds to the beauty of the fort.
Overnight stay in Jaipur.

Day 6: Jaipur - Agra

This morning, you will embark on a journey to Agra taking about 5 to 6 hours. Along the way, you will make a stop at Fatehpur Sikri, also known as "The City of Victory," a deserted red sandstone city built by the Great Mughal Emperor Akbar in the late 16th century to serve as his capital and palace. Although Fatehpur Sikri was the capital of the Mughal Empire for only a decade, it was an impressive city complete with palaces and mosques, and it was once larger than London. However, due to the scarcity of water, it was abandoned soon after its construction over 300 years ago, and it remains in much the same condition today.

After exploring Fatehpur Sikri, you will continue to Agra, which served as the capital to the Mughals in the 16th and 17th centuries and houses many of their most famous monuments. The city has been an attraction for visitors for a long time, and some of the places of interest date back to the Afghans, who existed before the Mughals.

Upon arrival in Agra, you will check into your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure or join our optional program.

Optional program Day 6: High tea at the home of a local Family: USD 79/person

Experience the warmth and hospitality of an Indian family as you indulge in a traditional High Tea! Engage in lively conversation and gain a unique insight into the social, religious, and philosophical perspectives of the locals. Discover the secrets of Indian cuisine and culture, while learning about the daily lives of the people. Get ready for a cultural exchange like no other, as you enjoy a memorable afternoon with your new friends!

Overnight in Agra.

Day 7: Agra

This morning you will visit the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is everything that has been said about it and more. Visitors are asked to remove their shoes prior to entering the interiors of the Taj Mahal.

Taking 22 years and 20,000 men to build, the white marble was quarried 200 miles away and was transported to the site by a fleet of 1000 elephants! Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal (literally translated as Jewel of the Palace). She died at the age of 39 giving birth to her fourteenth child and he went into mourning for two years, turning away from the business of running an empire and becoming more involved with his other great love – architecture! Feast your eyes on the exquisite intricate marble inlay work!  Legend has it that the cenotaphs were inlaid with diamonds. A blanket woven of pearls covered Mumtaz’s shroud. A railing of gold circled the cenotaphs, which was later on replaced by a marble one. Gold leaf was said to have covered all or part of the dome.

After the tour, return to the hotel to freshen up. The rest of the day is free at your leisure, or you can join our optional tours.

Optional program Day 7: Agra Fort and Tomb of Itimad-ud-daulah: USD 109/person
Visit the Agra Fort. Set on the bend of the River Yamuna. Emperor Akbar built it as his citadel over the years 1565-1573. This magnificent fort, with its imposing gates, walls of red sandstone and moat, dominates the center of the city. The fort was built by three different Mughal Emperors: Akbar the Great erected the walls, gates and first buildings; Emperor Shah Jehan built the impressive imperial quarters and mosque; while Emperor Aurangzeb added the outer ramparts. A visit to the Hall of Public Audience and the Royal Pavilions is a must! At the end of his life, Aurangzeb imprisoned his father, Shah Jehan, at Agra Fort — a mild punishment considering the luxury of the fort. Legend states that Shah Jehan died in Muasamman Burj, a tower with a marble balcony with an excellent view of the Taj Mahal.

The Tomb of Itimad-Ud-Daula was constructed by the Mughal queen Nur Jahan between 1622 and 1628 where her father Itimad Ud Daula was buried. Itimad Ud Daula or Mirza Ghiyas-ud-din or Ghiyas Beg was the father of Nur Jahan, the Mughal empress and wife of Jahangir. He was later also made a minister and a trusted treasurer in Akbar"s court. It was as a tribute to him, that Nur Jahan built the mausoleum after his death. The first example of a tomb built on a riverbank in India, the Itimad Ud Daula tomb houses the body of Mirza Ghiyas Beg, the father Mughal Empress Noor Jahan who again was Emperor Jahangir’s wife. This beautiful tomb situated on the banks of the Yamuna is also known as the "baby Taj". Built around 1625 AD, the Itimad Ud Daula Tomb, has many features that were later incorporated during the construction of the Taj Mahal. Interestingly, the carvings on this monument are said to be even better than that of the Taj. Another distinguishable feature of this tomb is that it has been built in the Central Asian pattern of a domed structure complete with a formal garden, waterways and paths laid out in a geometrical pattern. The Itimad Ud Daulah’s tomb, built in pure marble is also the first Mughal structure to make extensive use of the Pietra Dura style of inlay work. One of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Agra, the Itimad Ud Daulah would really be an interesting experience for tourists.

Overnight in Agra.

Day 8: Agra – Jhansi - Orchha

Today, you will be transferred to the railway station to board the Gatiman Express train boarding from Agra at 09:45 & arriving into Jhansi at 12:55 (approximately 3 hours train ride). Upon arrival Jhansi, meeting & assistance and drive to Orchha (Approximately 45 minutes).

In the afternoon, your sightseeing tour of Orchha will commence with a visit to Jahangir Mahal, a beautiful multi-storied citadel located in the town of Orchha, India. This graceful fortress was constructed in honor of Jahangir, a Mughal emperor, and features 136 rooms adorned with exquisite wall paintings, stylish hanging terraces, eight elegant domes, and porches. The stunning views of the valley, the temples emerging from the lush green forest, and the shimmering Betwa River provide a serene setting for moments of admiration and meditation, as well as fantastic photo opportunities for visitors.

Your tour will also include a visit to the Ram Raja temple, a beautiful temple dedicated to Ram with an intriguing history. The idols that were meant to be installed in the magnificent Chaturbhuj temple were initially placed on the ground where this temple now stands. However, the idols could not be moved once they were placed on the ground, marking the spot as sacred, and a temple was subsequently built there. The Ram Raja temple boasts a serene architecture, with a marble courtyard and vibrant walls that add to its charm.

Overnight stay in Orchha.

Day 9: Orchha - Khajuraho

This morning, we will embark on a 3 hour bus ride to Khajuraho. Upon arrival, your tour guide will help you check-in to your hotel.

Khajuraho is considered one of India’s seven wonders and listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. The city encompasses the nation’s largest array of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, decorated with intricately detailed erotic sculptures and reliefs. The site incorporates close to 100 sacred structures, some of them exquisitely preserved, and each evening, a light and sound show is staged here, covering the history, philosophy and craftsmanship encapsulated in this archaeological goldmine. Other highlights include: vibrant Annual Dance Festival of Khajuraho; the Panna National Park, home to leopards; the Arhanta Yoga Ashram, where visitors can take classical Hatha yoga classes. The city also boasts a wide variety of wonderful shops, markets and restaurants.

During the afternoon, your itinerary will take you to the western group of temples in Khajuraho. These temples are a distinctive offering to the world and reflect every human emotion, from life to love and joy, portrayed in a perfect execution and sublime expression. They capture life in all its forms and moods, testifying to the masterful craftsmanship of their creators. Out of the original 85 granite and sandstone temples, only 22 remain today, displaying the Chandela Rajputs" extraordinary vision who conceived and built them. Your tour will include a visit to the magnificent Kandariya Mahadev Temple, the largest temple in Khajuraho, as well as the striking Lakshman Temple, one of the three most prominent temples in Khajuraho, facing East and dedicated to Lord Vishnu, believed to have been built in AD 954. After that, you will continue exploring the Eastern group of temples, where you will visit the Parsvanath Temple, the largest Jain temple in this group, and exquisitely detailed. The sculptures on the temple"s northern outer wall are artistically designed and depict everyday activities with charming detail.

Overnight stay in Khajuraho.

Day 10: Khajuraho - Allahabad

This morning, embark on a 6.5 hour bus ride to Allahabad, also known as Prayagraj - a city with a rich history and one of the oldest in India. The city holds great significance in ancient scriptures as "Prayag" or "Teertharaj", and is considered a sacred pilgrimage center. It is located at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers, and the meeting point, known as Triveni, is particularly revered by Hindus. The Kumbh Mela, held every six years, and the Mahakumbh Mela, held every twelve years at Prayagraj (Sangam), are the largest gatherings of pilgrims in the world. Aside from its spiritual significance, Allahabad has played a crucial role in India"s freedom struggle. It was the birthplace of the first Indian National Congress in 1885 and witnessed the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi"s non-violent movement in 1920.

Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the rest of your day at your leisure.

Overnight in Allahabad.

Day 11: Allahabad - Varanasi

Today, you will check out of the hotel and head to Allahabad to explore the city"s main attractions. Your first stop will be Triveni Sangam, a sacred site where the physical rivers Ganges and Yamuna converge with the mythical Saraswati. It is believed that taking a dip in these holy waters will cleanse one"s soul of sins and liberate them from the cycle of rebirth. Next, you will visit Anand Bhawan, a beautiful mansion built by Motilal Nehru, an Indian political leader, in the 1930s. The mansion served as the new residence for the Nehru family after their original home, Swaraj Bhawan, was transformed into the headquarters of the Indian National Congress. Finally, you will explore Allahabad Fort, the largest fort ever built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1583 CE. It is a magnificent example of Mughal-era craftsmanship and was considered one of the best garrisons in the entire empire. Today, it is recognized as a national monument by the Archaeological Survey of India.

In the afternoon, embark on a 2.5 hour bus ride to Varanasi. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the rest of your day at your leisure.

Overnight stay in Varanasi.

Day 12: Varanasi

Start your day early by heading to the ghats for a serene boat ride along the misty waters of the River Ganges. As you float along, you"ll witness a plethora of fascinating sights, such as devotees performing their morning rituals, religious ceremonies or puja to the rising sun, and many other ancient traditions still being practiced to this day. The reflection of the sun"s shimmering red and gold hues on the river creates a magical atmosphere that captivates the devotees. The chanting of mantras and hymns along with the sweet fragrance of incense in the air fills your senses with a sense of mystique and provides a truly blissful experience. After your boat ride, take a walk along the narrow cobbled lanes and pause en route to view the stunning Vishwanath Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Varanasi.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Vishwanath Temple is considered the holiest shrine in Varanasi. The original temple was destroyed by Aurangzeb, the Mughal Emperor, but later restored by Rani Ahilyabai of Indore in the 18th century. During the 19th century, Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab adorned the dome with gold plating. It"s important to note that the entry of non-Hindus inside the temple is restricted.

Return to your hotel for refreshment.

Later continue your exploration of Varanasi with a city tour, including a visit to Banaras Hindu University and the Bharat Mata TempleFounded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Banaras Hindu University is considered the largest residential university in Asia. The university campus also houses the Vishwanath Temple and Bharat Kala Kendra (Museum), both of which are worth a visit. The Bharat Mata Temple offers an interesting experience unlike any other temple in India. Instead of housing deities of gods and goddesses, it is the only temple dedicated to Mother India. The most unique feature of the temple is the relief map of India carved out of marble. It was built by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1936. The statue of Bharat Mata is built in marble and represents the undivided India, depicting the mountains, plains, and oceans.

In the afternoon, the day is free at your leisure to spend some time to explore around the city, or you may join our optional program to visit Sarnath and Museum.

In the evening, you will board a rickshaw down to the river ghats to experience the rays of the setting sun casting their mystical shadows upon the darkening water.
