Day 1: USA to Beijing

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with UTOvacation by beginning your journey at the airport and heading towards the magnificent city of Beijing. As you take off towards your destination, get ready to experience the rich history, culture, and beauty of China. From exploring the world-renowned Great Wall and marveling at the wonders of the Terra Cotta, to indulging in delicious Chinese cuisine and immersing yourself in the lively atmosphere of local markets and temples, your trip with UTOvacation promises to be an adventure of a lifetime. Day 2: Beijing Arrival

Upon arriving at Beijing International Airport, you will be greeted by your tour guide and then transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore. Some places that you should check out include:

1) Gui Jie: Also known as Ghost Stree, is a famous food street, offering a wide variety of traditional Chinese cuisine, especially spicy dishes, as well as Beijing-style snacks and desserts.

2) Houhai Lake: This is a scenic area with many bars, restaurants, and shops. It’s a great place to relax and take in the atmosphere.

3) 798 Art District: This is a trendy art district in Beijing that is known for its contemporary art galleries, cafes, and shops.

Day 3: Beijing

Get ready for an unforgettable journey through China’s imperial past with our tour of Beijing. 

Our first stop will be 【Tiananmen Square】, the largest public square in the world, with a fascinating history dating back to the 15th century. 

Fun Fact: It was originally built as a gateway to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square has played a pivotal role in Chinese politics and culture throughout the centuries. The name "Tiananmen" means "Gate of Heavenly Peace" and the square has been the site of many significant events, including the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.

Next, we will visit the 【Forbidden City】, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that housed 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. 

Fun Fact: It is the largest and most well-preserved palace complex in the world, with over 8,000 rooms and buildings. Legend has it that when the Forbidden City was being constructed in the 15th century, the emperor ordered that a large stone be placed at the entrance of the palace. The stone was so heavy that no one could move it, and it remained there for years. One day, a monk appeared and told the emperor that a dragon lived beneath the stone and was causing mischief. The emperor ordered the stone to be moved, and sure enough, a massive dragon appeared, grateful for being released. In return, the dragon promised to protect the Forbidden City and bring good fortune to the empire. From that day on, the dragon became a symbol of the emperor’s power and the Forbidden City’s invincibility.

Then we will proceed to the 【Summer Palace】, a magnificent imperial garden that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Fun Fact: Legend has it that the Summer Palace was built on the orders of Emperor Qianlong, who was said to be deeply in love with a consort named Hui Fei. She once asked him to create a garden for her, but he was unable to fulfill her wish before her untimely death. In his grief, he ordered the construction of the Summer Palace as a tribute to her memory, complete with a replica of her childhood home in Zhejiang province. Today, visitors can see the beautiful garden and pagoda that Qianlong built for his beloved consort, as well as the other stunning architectural and natural wonders of the Summer Palace.

Finally, we will end our tour with a 【Grand Welcome Dinner for the Chinese New Year】. The dinner will take place at a hotel, and we will be treated to a traditional lion dance performance. The lion dance is a form of traditional Chinese dance that is performed during special occasions and is believed to bring good luck and fortune.

Day 4: Beijing

Our first stop is the 【Mutianyu Great Wall】, which is one of the best-preserved sections of the Great Wall of China, and it has a rich history that dates back over 1,400 years. 

Fun Fact: The wall was first built during the Northern Qin Dynasty in the 6th century and was later expanded during the Ming Dynasty. Its strategic location was vital for defending against invasions from the north and played a crucial role in China’s military defence for centuries. The Mutianyu section is known for its unique watchtowers, including the Zhengguan Tower, used to store weapons and ammunition during wartime. Today, the Mutianyu Great Wall stands as a symbol of China’s rich cultural heritage and is a testament to the ingenuity and determination of the Chinese people.

Afterwards, we’ll venture to the legendary  Kung-Fu Show at Red Theatre.

Special arrangement: Interact with the trainer and performers before the Kung-Fu Show.

As a special surprise, you will receive a carefully chosen 【Jade Pendant】, which is a traditional Chinese ornament that symbolizes good fortune and longevity. The jade stone has been highly prized in Chinese culture for centuries and is believed to possess healing powers.

Our tour will also take us to the iconic 【Birds Nest】 and 【Water Cube】, which were built for the 2008 Summer Olympics. These architectural marvels are not only stunning to behold but also hold significant historical and cultural significance for China.

We will also attend the 【New Year Temple Fair】 of Beijing, a vibrant and colorful celebration that takes place during the Chinese New Year. The fair features various stalls selling traditional snacks, souvenirs, and performances, including dragon and lion dances.

Finally, we will end our tour with the 【Golden Mask Dynasty Show】, a magnificent performance that combines dance, music, and acrobatics to tell the story of a legendary Chinese dynasty. The show features an intricate set, lavish costumes, and incredible special effects that transport the audience to another time and place.

Day 5: Beijing - Xi’an

We’ll start our day by visiting the 【Temple of Heaven】, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as an imperial temple during the Ming and Qing dynasties. 

As we walk through the park, we’ll see locals doing their morning exercises, including Tai Chi and Qigong. Our knowledgeable guide will share the history and significance of this ancient practice, and we’ll have the opportunity to join in and learn some Tai Chi moves ourselves.

Next, we’ll head to a traditional 【Hutong】, one of Beijing’s oldest neighborhoods. We’ll explore the narrow alleyways and visit a 【Siheyuan Courtyard house】, where we’ll learn about the history and architecture of these unique homes. 

Fun Fact: One interesting fact about Siheyuan, which is a traditional style of courtyard house in China, is that it is designed and built to accommodate multiple generations of a family living together under one roof, with different wings of the house designated for different members and their respective households.

After our Hutong visit, we’ll head to a local restaurant to learn how to 【make dumplings】, a staple of Chinese cuisine. We’ll have a hands-on experience making and cooking our own dumplings, and then sit down to enjoy an authentic Chinese New Year lunch.

In the afternoon, we’ll travel in style on the China bullet train, known for its speed and comfort. We’ll be traveling in 【first class】, so we’ll have plenty of legroom and a great view of the scenery as we speed towards Xi’an.

Special arrangement: The Taichi class at Temple of Heaven. Then enjoy the rickshaw ride along Hutong and visit the local family.

Day 6: Xi’an

Our first stop is the 【Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum】, one of the most iconic and impressive archaeological finds in the world. We’ll see the thousands of life-sized Terracotta warriors and horses that were buried with the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, over 2,000 years ago.

As a special souvenir, we’ll provide you with a duplicate of a Terracotta warrior to take home with you.

Next, we’ll visit 【Xians Ancient City Wall】, the most complete city wall in China and one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.

Fun Fact: Xi’an’s Ancient City Wall is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the best-preserved ancient city walls in China. It was built in the 14th century during the Ming Dynasty, and it encircles the old city of Xi’an, which was once the capital of China. What makes this wall unique is not only its massive size, but also the fact that it includes a moat, watchtowers, and even arrow slits for archers. Interestingly, the wall is not just a historical monument, but is still fully functional as a city defense system. Visitors can even rent bicycles and ride along the top of the wall to get a unique view of the city.

After exploring the wall, we’ll head to the 【Small Wild Goose Pagoda】, a Buddhist pagoda that dates back to the Tang dynasty. 

Fun Fact:Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built in 707 AD, originally used to house Buddhist sutras and relics that were brought from India. An interesting fact about the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is that it is a survivor of numerous earthquakes and wars that have occurred throughout its history, including the devastating earthquake of 1556 that destroyed much of the city. 

Then, we’ll visit Muslim Street, a bustling market area filled with vendors selling traditional Muslim foods and handicrafts. We’ll have the opportunity to try some delicious street food and explore the unique culture of Xi’an’s Muslim community.

Day 7: Xi’an

Our first stop is 【Famen Temple】, a Buddhist temple that dates back to the Eastern Han dynasty (25-220 AD). 

Fun Fact: The temple is famous for its underground palace, which was discovered in the 1980s and contains a wealth of treasures, including a finger bone of the Buddha. Our knowledgeable guide will share the fascinating history and stories of this temple as we explore the beautiful grounds and architecture.

Next, we’ll visit 【Qian Mausoleum】, a historical site in China that showcases the culture and power of the Tang dynasty. 

Fun Fact: It is the joint tomb of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian, the only female emperor in Chinese history. She ruled for half a century and expanded China’s territory and influence. The mausoleum is located on Mount Liang in Shaanxi province and is surrounded by two walls with stone sculptures. Qian Mausoleum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist attraction.

After ample time to wander and explore both of these incredible sites, we’ll return you to your hotel in the late afternoon.

As a special cultural experience, we’ll arrange a Chinese calligraphy lesson for you. We’ll visit a local artist’s studio where we’ll learn about the art of calligraphy and try our hand at this ancient art form.

As a special souvenir, we prepare for you Chinese calligraphy and painting to take home.

Lunch:   Shaanxi Local cuisine in Farmer’s restaurant (Shaanxi’s local cuisine is dominated by noodles, beef and lamb, so you must try their specialties)

Day 8: Xi’an - Guilin

We’ll start our journey by taking a flight to Guilin. Upon arrival, we’ll begin our adventure by visiting 【Elephant Trunk Hill】, one of the most famous landmarks in Guilin. 

Fun Fact: As its name suggests, the hill resembles an elephant drinking water from the river, and our guide will share the history and folklore behind this fascinating natural wonder.

Next, we’ll visit 【Reed Flute Cave】, a stunning underground cave system known for its beautiful rock formations and colorful lights. 

Fun Fact: The cave was first discovered during the Tang dynasty and has been a popular attraction for over a thousand years. Our guide will share the history and legends behind this incredible site as we explore the winding tunnels and beautiful chambers.

After a full day of exploring, we’ll return you to your hotel to rest and recharge for the next day’s adventures.

Lunch:  Guilin Local Veer Fish in Ms Liu’s restaurant (one of the local best restaurants for tasting Guilin most famous fish)

Day 9: Guilin - Yangshuo - Guilin

Experience the natural beauty and cultural diversity of Guilin on this full-day tour. 

Start with a four-hour cruise down the 【Li Jiang River】, where you will enjoy stunning views of the karst mountains and bamboo forests that inspired many classical Chinese paintings. Along the way, you will see local fishermen with their cormorants, water buffaloes grazing on the banks, and villages nestled among the hills.

Arrive at 【Yangshuo】, a charming town that attracts visitors from all over the world. Explore on your own by either renting a bike or taking a walk around Yangshuo’s West Street, a bustling street that blends Chinese and Western cultures. Here you can shop for souvenirs and taste local delicacies.

Special arrangement: learn how to make bamboo fans at Fuli ancient town & experience the farm work and enjoy the lunch at the local farmer’s house. Enjoy the Yulong River Bamboo-Rafting in the afternoon.

Day 10: Guilin - Hangzhou

Join this full-day tour and immerse yourself in the beauty and culture of Hangzhou, one of China’s most famous ancient cities. Take a flight to 【Hangzhou】 and enjoy the scenic views of the city from the air. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel which is by the West Lake with the best view and relax for a while.

Then, head to 【West Lake】, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is renowned for its natural and cultural landscape. Board a boat and cruise along the lake, admiring the lotus flowers, willow trees, pagodas, and bridges that dot the shore. Listen to your guide as they tell you stories and legends about the lake.

Fun Fact: West Lake is known for the love story of Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen, a young scholar and a white snake who transformed into a beautiful woman. They fell in love and got married, but their happiness was threatened by a monk named Fahai, who tried to separate them and imprison Bai Suzhen under Leifeng Pagoda. After many trials and tribulations, they were finally reunited with the help of their son and a golden turtle.

Along the way, stop at some of these famous attractions around the lake, such as Leifeng Pagoda, Su Causeway, Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, and Lingyin Temple. Learn about the history and significance of these places, and marvel at their architecture and art.

Day 11: Hangzhou - Wuzhen

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and experience the charm and tranquility of 【Wuzhen Water Town】, one of the most famous ancient towns in China. 

Transfer to Wuzhen from Hangzhou by bus, and check in at a riverside inn in the scenic area, where you can you can follow the guide to visit or enjoy the view of the canal and the traditional architecture on your own.

Fun Fact: Wuzhen Water Town is divided into two parts: Dong Zha (East Scenic Zone) and Xi Zha (West Scenic Zone). You can follow your guide to visit both parts, or explore on your own at your own pace. Here are some of the highlights of each part:

Dong Zha: This part preserves the original layout and appearance of the town, with many historical and cultural attractions. You can visit the Hundred-Bed Museum, where you can see various kinds of ancient beds from different dynasties; the Folk Custom Museum, where you can learn about the local traditions and festivals; the Shadow Play Theater, where you can watch a traditional puppet show; and the Ancient Stage, where you can enjoy a performance of Kunqu Opera, one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera.

Xi Zha: This part is more modern and commercialized, with many shops, restaurants, bars, and hotels. You can visit the Wine Distillery Workshop, where you can see how the local rice wine is made and taste some samples; the Indigo Fabric Workshop, where you can see how the local blue cloth is dyed and woven; the Water Market, where you can buy some souvenirs and snacks; and the Ancient Bed Museum, where you can see more than 30 exquisite beds from different regions.

Wuzhen Water Town is a place where you can experience the authentic lifestyle and culture of a water town in China. You can also enjoy some activities such as boating, cycling, or walking along the bridges and alleys.

Day 12: Wuzhen - Suzhou

Discover the charm and elegance of 【Suzhou】, the “Venice of the East”, on this full-day tour. Transfer to Suzhou from Shanghai by bus, and enjoy the scenic views of the city along the way. 

Fun Fact: Suzhou is one of the oldest and most famous cities in China, with a history of over 2,500 years. It is renowned for its classical gardens, canals, bridges, and silk industry.

Explore the 【Garden of the Master of the Nets】, one of the finest examples of Suzhou’s classical gardens. 

Fun Fact: The garden was first built in 1140 by Shi Zhengzhi, a minister of the Southern Song dynasty, who named it Ten Thousand Volume Hall. He was inspired by the simple and solitary life of a fisherman depicted in philosophical writings. The garden was later renamed by a Qing dynasty official who bought it and restored it. The garden covers an area of 5,400 square meters, and consists of three parts: a residential area, a central main garden, and an inner garden. The garden is famous for its exquisite design, harmonious layout, and artistic features.

In the evening, if you are interested, you can follow your guide to the countryside to enjoy a 【Chinese fireworks show】. 

Fun Fact: Fireworks are an important part of Chinese culture and festivals, and are believed to bring good luck and happiness. Suzhou fireworks are a traditional Chinese fireworks craft known for their unique designs, exquisite colors, and sophisticated techniques. You can watch the colorful and dazzling fireworks light up the night sky, and feel the festive atmosphere.

Day 13: Suzhou - Nianhua Bay

Discover the beauty and culture of 【Wuxi】, a historical and cultural city of China that has been a flourishing center of commerce and industry since ancient times. 

You will wander around Nanchang Street, a vibrant pedestrian street that runs through the core of Wuxi. You will find a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues to suit your taste. You can also taste some local delicacies such as fried bullfrog, stinky tofu, and sweet dumplings.

Visit 【Nianhua Bay Zen Town】, a peaceful resort that combines traditional architecture, Buddhist culture, and modern amenities. You will feel relaxed and refreshed as you stroll along the lake, visit the temples, and admire the light show at night. 

Fun Fact: Here is a story about Nianhua Bay, which was once a famous Buddhist site where many monks and nuns practiced meditation and enlightenment. According to legend, there was a young monk named Nianhua who fell in love with a beautiful girl named Hua. They secretly met at the bay every night and exchanged vows of eternal love. However, their romance was discovered by the abbot of the temple, who was furious and ordered Nianhua to be expelled from the monastery. Hua was heartbroken and decided to drown herself in the lake. Nianhua heard of her death and rushed to the bay, only to find her lifeless body floating on the water. He hugged her tightly and cried out loud, wishing to die with her. Suddenly, a miracle happened. The water turned into lotus flowers and lifted them up to the sky. They became immortal beings and lived happily ever after in the lotus paradise. That’s why the bay is called Nianhua Bay, which means lotus bay in Chinese.

You will visit the beautiful 【Lihu Park】 on the shores of 【Lake Tai】. Lake Tai is one of the largest freshwater lakes in China and has a long history of cultural and natural significance. You will learn about the legends and stories of the lake, such as the famous Fan Li boat and the Xi Shi rock. You will also admire the views of the lake and its islands, as well as the gardens and pavilions in the park.

After exploring Lihu Park, you will transfer back to 【Shanghai】 and walk along 【the Bund】, the iconic waterfront promenade that showcases the city’s colonial and modern architecture. The Bund was once the center of foreign trade and influence in Shanghai, and you will see the contrast between the historic buildings on one side and the futuristic skyscrapers on the other. You will also learn about the history and development of Shanghai as a global metropolis.

Next, you will board a cruise on the 【Huangpu River】, which flows through the heart of Shanghai. You will enjoy a panoramic view of both sides of the river, including landmarks such as the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Shanghai Tower, and the World Financial Center. Day 15: Shanghai

Experience the excitement and charm of 【Shanghai】 during the Chinese New Year with this unique and fun-filled tour. 

You will start your day by riding the 【Shanghai maglev train】 first-class, the world’s first commercial high-speed magnetic levitation train that can reach a speed of 431 km/h (268 mph). 

Next, you will visit 【Xintiandi】, a fashionable and trendy area that blends the old and the new. Xintiandi is composed of restored shikumen houses, traditional stone-gate buildings that are typical of old Shanghai, as well as modern shopping malls, restaurants, and bars. You will enjoy the lively atmosphere and the rich cultural heritage of Xintiandi, as well as its variety of shops and cuisines.

After lunch, you will join a special Chinese New Year paper-cutting performance and workshop at a local art center. 

Fun Fact: Paper-cutting is a traditional folk art that dates back to the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) and is used to decorate windows, doors, walls, and lanterns during festivals and celebrations. You will learn about the history and symbolism of paper-cutting, as well as how to make your own 福 (fu) paper-cutting, which means happiness and good fortune.

In the evening, you will visit the New Year Temple Fair in the City God Temple area of Shanghai, one of the most popular and lively places to celebrate the Chinese New Year. 【The New Year Temple Fair】 is a carnival-like event that features various stalls selling snacks, souvenirs, handicrafts, and games. You will also enjoy the performances of dragon dances, lion dances, folk music, acrobatics, and puppet shows. You will feel the festive spirit and join the locals in wishing for a prosperous and happy new year.
