Day 1: Depart for Portugal

Get ready to depart for Portugal!

Day 2: Arrive in Lisbon

Welcome to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal! Find your own transportation to your hotel or you can choose the optional private airport pick up service ($120 / Person--Minimum to 2 ppl). Did you know that Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, predating other European capitals such as London, Paris, and Rome by centuries? You will have an orientation meeting with your Tour Manager at the hotel today. Get ready for your adventure in this beautiful city.

Day 3: Lisbon City Tour

Start your morning with a stunning panoramic view of Lisbon from the top of Edward VII"s Park. Did you know that this park was named after the British king Edward VII, who visited Lisbon in 1902 to strengthen diplomatic relations between Portugal and the UK? Then, visit the Belem Tower and the Monument of Discoveries, both symbols of Portugal"s great age of exploration. Did you know that the Belem Tower was built in the 16th century as a fortress to defend the city and later served as a lighthouse and a customs checkpoint? Afternoon is at leisure for you to explore more of Lisbon on your own.

Portugal has a long coastline along the Atlantic Ocean and a rich fishing tradition. Some popular seafood dishes in Portugal include grilled sardines, salt cod (known as bacalhau), octopus salad, seafood stew (known as caldeirada), and shrimp in garlic sauce (known as camarão alho). The country is also famous for its seafood festivals, where locals and tourists alike can indulge in an abundance of fresh and flavorful seafood dishes.

Day 4: Zafra en route to Seville

Depart Lisbon and head south. Cross the region of Alentejo, with its rolling hills, vineyards and cork oak trees. Reach the Spanish border and enter the region of Extremadura approximately 3 hours bus ride to the town of Zafra with its15th century Alcazar (fortress). After an orientation tour, spend time at leisure. In the afternoon approximately 1.5 hours bus ride head to Seville , capital of the Andalucia region on Spain"s southern coast. Upon arrival, check into your hotel. Later, opportunity to attend the optional Flamenco Show in this city known as the birthplace of Flamenco.

Join us this evening for an unforgettable experience of Spanish culture with a traditional Flamenco show and a glass of fine wine. The cante jondo, or "deep song," is at the heart of Flamenco and expresses the raw emotions of the performers through ancient poetic verses. Day 5: Full Day in Seville

Enjoy a full day at leisure in Seville or join the optional Seville City Tour, where you will get a chance to explore the city"s landmarks, including the Cathedral of Seville, the largest Gothic cathedral and the third-largest church in the world. Did you know that the cathedral is the burial site of Christopher Columbus?

In the afternoon, perhaps join the optional Palacio de las Dueñas, a beautiful palace built in the 15th century that features Renaissance, Gothic, and Moorish architecture.

Day 6: Cordoba en route to Madrid

You will depart Seville and approximately 5 hours bus ride head to north towards Madrid, but not before stopping in Cordoba, a city with a rich cultural heritage dating back to the Roman Empire. Did you know that the Mezquita de Cordoba, a grand mosque that was transformed into a cathedral in the 16th century, is considered one of the most important examples of Islamic architecture in the world? After visiting Cordoba, continue your journey north through the region of La Mancha, famous for its windmills and its connection to the literary character Don Quixote. Arrive in Madrid and check into your hotel. Upon arrival the rest of the day is at your leisure.

During your visit to Toledo, make sure to see its most famous monuments, including the St. Tome Church, which is home to El Greco"s "The Burial of Count Orgaz," and the Santa Maria la Blanca Synagogue. Day 8: Madrid to Barcelona

Travel from Madrid to Barcelona by railway (approximately 2.5 hours). Visit Montserrat mountain range, a natural park since 1987 with circular-shaped peaks and a 4,000-foot height. See Montserrat Basilica, which houses a Romanesque carving from the 12th century of Montserrat"s Virgin Mary, patron saint of Catalonia. Visit the small chapel built on this site where legend has it that shepherds found the statue of the Black Madonna or "Moreneta" in 880. You can also visit the Montserrat Museum with early paintings from the 13th to 18th centuries, including works by famous artists such as El Greco, Caravaggio, Fortuny, Rusiñol, Casas, Picasso, and Dalí.

Barcelona has a unique blend of Gothic and modernist architecture, and you can visit the Gothic Quarter, the heart of the old city, to see the impressive Barcelona Cathedral dating back to the 13th century. In the afternoon, take the optional Gaudi Monuments tour to see the works of Antoni Gaudi, one of Spain"s most famous architects. See his masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, which is still under construction and estimated to be completed in 2026, 144 years after it was started!
